I don't know if a clogged fuel filter would throw a cel due to lack of fuel getting to your engine. Maybe someone else will know.

This may not be the answer, but it's a shot.

If you are on a budget I'd search the posts on here for how to read the CEL without so much as a trouble light. Get the code and come back and share it and seek input. The answers are there grasshopper, if you look.

Happy Exploring

Hmm.. Yea, I guess I could have mentioned that.

You can get the codes checked for free at autozone if you have one around.

If you get them read and aren't sure exactly what it is, then bring it back to the board and I'm sure someone can help.

Welcome to the board if you haven't been already. :p

Go here - http://www.batauto.com/ - and look under technical/trouble codes. Has instructions on how to read (very easy w/the OBD-I) and what the codes mean.

alrighty well it came up as a 173 HEGO sensor problem i replaced the O2 sensor and my light still comes on and i took it to retest and the same problem showed so i went and researched it and it means my car is running rich what could be my problem.

oh yeah

oh yeah and my explorer will be for sale as soon as i get it fixed i am asking 3500 it is a 92 eddie bauer explorer 4x4 haven't switched over to the locking hubs yet. it has a k&n filter replacement. also has 180k mileage. email me at camaro_guy1213@yahoo.com if interested. on subject put 92 explorer. thanks

Your problem could be lots of things. Bad wiring/connections, incorrect fuel pressure, I've even seen this be a problem within the PCM itself. Here's what happens. The O2 sensor's ouptut is a 0 to 1 v signal that, under normal operation, should swing from a low reading to a high reading. What your PCM is seeing is a constant high reading (>~0.5 V). Inspect the wiring carefully and check the fuel pressure. If those check out ok, then we need to get deeper. You may even want to consult a good manual (Motor, Mitchell, Helm often available at libraries) that will contain detailed "pinpoint tests" and see if that gives you any ideas.
