Howdy-

A couple of days ago, my SRS dummy light started blinking & remained on. It happened shortly after a hard stop at an intersection (ABS kicked on for a second). I'm not sure if there's really any correlation b/w the two events...and by the way I didn't collide with anything!

Anyway, I did some research on past discussions within this forum & it seems a number of other drivers have had similar problems. The sequence of blinking for my vehicle is 3 & then 7, which I guess is some kind of code that can be translated into isolating the problem.

Could someone w/ vast Explorer knowledge please let me know what 3-7 means & would it be repairable for the average Joe like myself? I've heard the dealerships charge $200 just for the diagnostic + parts +labor, which I'd at least like to reduce if I can do some homework up front.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Regards,

Bill

Well dang, I just checked factory service for my 97', and it does not list a 37 code for SRS system. Must be something Ford updated between 97-99. :( Does your X has side airbags? Might be related to those.

In any event, it will still probably require a trip to the dealer to get rid of the light. The SRS system requires the code be cleared via SRS enabled scan tool. Unhooking the battery for a while won't do the trick on this one. :(

Thanks for the feedback...

No, mine doesn't have the side airbags. And I've already tried disconnecting the battery with no success...I was looking for a fuse that I could possibly take out & then reinstall, but couldn't find one.

Anyone else have an SRS code book for a '99 model?

The good news is
I have an air bag code reader.
The bad news is
it reads codes. I can't just scroll through and find out what is what.

Sorry I am of no help what so ever.

Air Bag Woes

No problem...thanks for checking!

I was reading one of the older discussions from last October & one of the members "Krzyboy2o" had the exact same problem (3-7) on the same year vehicle. The discussion seemed to end w/o a resolution, so I sent him an email to find the outcome...not sure if he's still a member or not.

Dealer Robbery

Just called one of the local dealerships & they wanna charge $94.50/hr for the diagnostic...Can you say "bend over"?

Can anyone throw me a lifeline?
