dont think it would make much difference in performance but if it is cracked after the filter id fix it. a crack before the mas wouldn't change the mas reading like one afte the mas would
If it was cracked on top of the filter and allowing dirt into the engine, then you may have perforance issues from wear on the engine. Has the engine been injesting dirt for a long time?
It is also pulling the warm under hood air instead of the cooler, denser air from outside the engine bay. I think the difference would not be very noticable though.
I would have to say if it is on top of the box then a big YES! As threw that break you can suck in dirt and junk that will make the MAF dirty as all get out and that is before you will notice any problems from what that dirt and stuff with do to the motor.
You are at that point (break on top) running for all intents with out a filter if you think about it.
A break below the filter should do nothing but maybe make it breath a bit better as that is what the Swiss cheese mod is all about!
