On my 99 explorer the A/C cycles on and off in every setting except the floor only setting . This is normal from looking at the wiring. With the gas prices up I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to not have it not cycle on and off except in the A/C mode or the max A/C mode. This I would think would save a little gas.I would like it not to come on in the panel and floor setting. The book states that the A/C should :usa:not come on in the vent only mode but mine does. Only the floor only mode does the compressor stay off. Thanks for reading this.

Yes, in the factory configuration, the A/C compressor runs in all modes except OFF and VENT. If yours does something else, your switch might be bad or some kind of electrical issue.

Some people have wired in a switch into the cab so that they can control whether the A/C can engage or not. I don't recommend this, but if it must be done, you can install a switch before the the compressor clutch relay.
