- '91 explorer, '88 bll
my '91 explorer had felt a bit weak when i bought it in November when compaired to my '88 bronco ll (410 gears) that i've been driving since it was new. i've had a K&N air filter on the bronco ll for about 19 years now and i have to clean it only once a year before going for emmisions testing. the bronco ll now semi retired, (used for snowplowing when the garden tractor won't move it) sits out back. on saturday i had a look at the air filter in the explorer and decided to see if i could swap with the bronco ll. they are an exact match. i disconnected the battery to clear the 'puter and what a difference it has made with performance. it has woken up a a sleeping engine. i've not yet checked fuel mileage but i can tell that the tank of 94 octane in it now has gotten me a lot further than the last tank. i prefer 94 octane fuel while there is colder weather 'cause it vapourizes faster and gives better performance. i didn't need a whole lot of hp yesterday though 'cause of the snowy conditions it took me 5 hours to drive 100 miles. it was a long day coming down from Whistler Olympic Park for Biathlon..... http://www.whistlerolympicpark.com/ (2010 Winter Olympics being held there)
