I just found out that it will be very expensive to replace the shocks of my 97 EB Explorer because it has the air ride suspension. I am not familiar with any reviews of the air ride suspension; does it really do anything good?

Is it just air shocks, or is there more to it? If I want to disable it, how do I do it?

Welcome to our site!

Your air-ride suspension will level your Explorer automatically if you are hauling heavier loads in the back that cause ass-end sagage.
Also, your air ride suspension you have actually will raise and lower your vehicles' ride height depending on your 4WD selection.
eg. -4x4 auto; ride height is normal
-4x4; ride height is 1 inch higher then normal (if you travel at speeds higher then 35MPH it will revert back down to normal ride height)
-4x4 low; ride height is 2 inches higher then normal

If you don't understand this or need more info, take a look in your owners manual.
Hope this helps.
