Hello,

I have a 2017 Ford Explorer 2.3 Ecoboost AWD. Today I noticed that when I accelerate a little harder I hear what sounds like air being sucked in. It does not do it all the time. The vehicle is running normal. No jerking or vibration or anything. No check engine lights or anything have come on. Perhaps this is normal operation sounds from a 2.3 in the summer months 🤷🏽‍♂️.

Truly appreciate any insight you can provide.

I would have guessed it's just the turbo kicking in?
Makes sense, I have never heard the sound before.

Was your windshield replaced. Mine was and they did not seal the bottom well. 3 months until the figured it out. Had to remove and reinstall the windshield.

Since you've just begun hearing this and your Explorer is a 2017, can I assume you are not the original owner?

Hello, It has not been replaced, but I am going to check it out and see if there is anything going on with it. Thank you!!

That is correct. I purchased in Dec 2023. I have had some work done to it. Had the PTU and turbos replaced, transmission serviced, cleaning of fuel system, brake fluid replaced, new battery, new motor mounts. She also had new tires and brakes installed before I purchased. According to the Ford Pass it has had some other work done too, but it’s not descriptive enough to know exactly what has been done. She drives really good. I plan on having the radiator flushed in the near future.

Thanks for the reply. FYI, when the turbos kick in on the vehicles I've had, the only change in sound is that the engine gets louder for a short time. I don't hear any "air being sucked in".

Thank you for the response. The engine revs normally. It just sounds like more air coming in and it very well could be just the turbos. It only does it when I accelerate a bit harder than normal. Once I let off the gas and it gets to coasting speed it stops. It does not do it if I accelerate normally or when I am maintaining speed.
