I found this forum out of dire necessity, as my '97 Explorer XLT's transfer case motor just went on the blink and couldn't disengage into Auto. Thanks to the copious posts regarding the subject, my buddy and I were able to get my XLT into 2WD and now we need to take it to a shop because the lights are blinking 6x every 2 minutes.

This is my first SUV and 4WD vehicle. It was my uncle's ranch car, but after his heart bypass, he had to give up ranching and, seeing that I needed a REAL car :D, sold me his "baby" for a song. It has 137k miles on it and is in really nice shape for a ranch car. My buddy did some quick patches on a couple of rust spots on the roof under and around the racks.

Anyhow, just wanted to say "HOWDY" and "ALOHA" to y'all and I'm glad to have found this forum when I did!

Much mahalo (thank you!) for the kind welcome, Brooklyn Bay! :D

Just to update y'all... my XLT's fully functional again!:thumbsup: The problem WAS the transfer case motor, so my buddy and I swapped out the original motor with one from a wrecking yard, did the whole computer reset thing, and lo and behold, it's working! :salute:

A big MAHALO!!! to Serious Explorations for a very FINE and INFORMATIVE forum!!! I'm settin' up camp here! ;)

aloha and welcome
