I have a 97 X SHOC and I was wondering what is the Alternator Amperage? I have a moderate stereo system (500 watts) in it now w/ a 1 Farad cap and in the moring the voltage reads around 14V-13.8V. But at night it reads 13V-12.7V. The voltages are pretty stable and don't vary that much with RPM(.1V-.3V) I am planing on puting a very large stereo system in it (4,800 watts) and I know this alt. isn't going to even reach 12V in the moring and 11V at night with the new system. Is there any thing I can do to get the levels up (Rewounding, new regulator)? Dose any other X's or any other Ford vehicle have a alt. that will work with my 97 X that will handle the load and still put out a respectable voltage?
Oh yea I have a Optima Yellow top that puts out 12.4V w/ the engine off and I have a Cyberdyne digital guage inside my X and the voltages are confermed w/ my Fluke 87 multimeter.
