I would like to upgrade my charging system and have been looking for a good alternator to go with my yellow top optima. My question is has anyone tried the MR. Alternator, and have you had any problems with it. What would you recommend.

www.4alterstart.com I picked up my 160amp alt from them and its worked flawlessly with all my lights at idle!

I had the Mr. Alternator 200 amp alternator on my Ex, and it's still on there (don't think my brother took it off :))... Anyway, no problems with it except that the pulley is smaller than stock, which made the belt loose... The belt squealed and the alternator was only putting out like 8-10 volts instead of 14.5. So I had to buy some spacers (female-to-female thread pipe connectors) that were about 3/4" and put them between the alternator and its mounting points. That, along with longer bolts and some washers for the bolts, made the alternator work perfectly and it has been that way for a while now.

And yes, I did try other belts. I could not find one that was smaller but still large enough to fit.

Thanks Guys I appreciate the information. I think I need a new alternator because after driving awhile, my voltage gauge drops to 10 volts, so I am sure I need a new alternator. I will be installing four off road lights so I need all the power I can get.
