I have a 97 Eddie Bauer Explorer, V-6 4WD.

Could anyone tell me the factory rating for my alternator, I'm guessing 130 amps? I've seen some aftermarket 200 amp alternators going for approx. $200.00, anyone know what a 230-240 amp alternator would run me for my Explorer? Thanks

Hey thanks. A 200 amp alternator will definately improve the distribution of voltage through my electrical system then. My very next upgrade! If anyone has any suggesstions on a replacement, your recommendations are welcome. I'm pulling approx. 180 amps right now from my after-market audio upgrade (I have my gain levels adjusted to 0, so I'm not actually using 180 amps of current). I have future plans that would have me pulling close to 200 amps, so a good 230-240 amp alternator with a 15 farad capacitor should have my electrical system stablized, even near peak levels. We'll see what happens though, time will tell.. and tell it all.

If you go to a 200 alternator, be sure to upgrade the wiring.

Good luck ....

Oh man.. What wires need to be upgraded with that, should be an easy install right? Where can I get a wiring kit at?

I don't think any reputable/capable manufacturers make 200 amp alts for our trucks.

you don't want to skimp when it comes to aftermarket alts

what would you suggest as far as upgrading my alternator.. I've seen a few 200 amp alternators. I would prefer to get something between 230-240 amps, but I haven't seen any advertised.

get the cheaper iraggi 240 amp one

Look into Irragi alternators. I have a 220amp one from them. They sell on Ebay as well.

That is the best idea. If your pulling that many amps you should do dual battery's to supplement the stock system instead of trying to pull so much from the stock setup.
