Ok...Well after tons of research and reading I had decided to get a 5 channel amp. But I now realize that my head unit only has two pre-amp outputs. I could use some help thinking this one out. If I only have two that mean that I could split one pair with two y-connectors for the speakers and use the other pair for the sub. But correct me if I am wrong but then I would loose the ability to control the fad and balance?? Correct?? The use the other pair for the sub. I am not sure if this is the most economical way to go about getting power to all four speakers and a sub or not??? My head hurts to much over all of this . What do you guys think is the best configuration and or amp choice when you want to power a all four speakers and a sub?? Thanks for your thoughts!!!! :banghead:

It depends on the amp but what you could do is run your front RCA's into the front of the amp, split the rear HU output so that it goes to the Rear amp input and sub input. This way you will have balance and fade control but if you fade the rear too much you will loose bass.

Some 5 channel amp allow you to sum the front and rear controls for cases like this, the other option is to use a 4 channel amp and a mono amp - most 4 channel amps have an RCA output.

hope this helps - I can give a better solution once I know what model amp you are using.

Here is an amp that allows you to sum the outputs for the sub;
Sub Channel Input: The sub channels have a mode switch that can be set to one of the following options:

External Input: use this mode when sending a dedicated signal to the subwoofer inputs
Internal Input: use this mode to send a signal from the front and rear inputs to the subwoofer; this is useful if your receiver does not have dedicated subwoofer outputs

Thanks for the response!! I did find that amp and noticed that effect. I was wanting to get the Alpine MRV-F450 and it did not say anything about that at Crutchfields so I went to the Alpine site and looked at the owners manual for that model and it does the same thing. GREAT!! I will still have control of fade and balance and still have good bass. Now the question is where is a good palce to mount it in an '03??
