oh ya man, definately, installing yourself will save you money and thats the bottom line, even a "novice" like yourself-we can walk you through everything, i'm at school right now so don't have time to do a 'full' write up, use the "search" feature for 'amp installation' or something similar-if you come up w/nothing send me a private message and i will do a write up for you later tonight.
kmblock I have 2 questions for you
1. What type of amp is it; 4 channel, 2 channel, mono.
2. Stock head unit or aftermarket
I installed my Sub and amp without any problems and that was the first car electronics I had done, you can and should do it yourself. Download this guide from Crutchfield, it provides some good info and has some sample wiring diagrams http://www.crutchfield.com/download/S-U9IM4e1JJ8T/carguide.html

Jeez, I just took a look at that info you posted, I just gave up right there! That looks like hours of work just fro the installations. If I do my own installation, I'm afraid I might screw up and waste money by frying the speakers or something.
its not hard, it really isnt. if you saw someone do it for you. After they finish youll be thinking to yourself. Damn i could have done that and saved about $100.
its simple really run the power wire from your battery to your amp. Youll need to make a hole somewhere so you can get the cord to come out to your hood.
hook up your remote wire to anything that turns on when you turn your car on. Most people just hook it up to their radios. Run that to your amp
ground your ground wire... duh find a screw in your car that is bolted to the floor inside your car, some drill their own hole, i didnt. Srape off any paint or whatever that might be on the inside of your car where the bolt is. Run that to your amp
run your rca's. if you have an aftermarket head unit, you will more than likely have pre-outputs for your subs. run the rcas to you amp.
And your amp is takin care of
hooking up your speakers is easy. positive to positive from speaker to amp, negative to negative speaker to amp
