Amp to power my speakers?

JBL GTS180X Is this a good choice to run my speakers from? I have Polk 5x7's with 100 watts peak handling. My headunit puts out 45 watts, so with this amp the speakers will be slightly overpowered, right? If so, will it be easy to blow out my speakers?

That amp should do just fine cause your HU doesn't really output 45W. That is the peak power rating. If/When you get that amp you will want to play with the crossover settings depending on how much bass you want those Polks getting.

peak power means nothing. you should go by the rms rating. that is actually what the speakers will handle. that amp is rated at 60 watts rms. if it is a little too much power for your speakers, you can still use it if you use the high pass crossover to block out the lows. but if you dont have a subwoofer it's not a good idea. your music wont have any bass.

My guess is that if you are getting 45 W peak then you are probably really only getting a max of 17 to 21 W RMS. Your speakers should be fine with that and the added 60 W from the Amp.

Let me correct myself. Your speakers will be getting only 60 W if you put that amp in. I mistakenly thought that the amp adds its power to that of the HU so you would be getting the HU + Amp watts...sorry for the misinformation.
