I've been changing my fluid in my tranny to try to get it close to flushed. I've also added sea foam hydra tune and Lucas trans fix recently.

It was doing okay just the usual 2nd gear flare and 5th gear dance (I have the AJ1E kit ready to install) but driving okay. I drove it 2 hours away. I came back about an hour later and it wouldn't go into any gear. It just rolls like it's in neutral (except for park).

I figured I probably gunked up some valves in the valve body. (Thanks to researching this forum)

So I replaced the valve body and went ahead and changed the solenoid pack and filter also while I was in there. I also cleared the memory.

However it still won't go into gear. The shift linkage looked okay but I will double check it.

Any ideas?

Check the hydraulic pressure on the main test port, and the EPC test port with a 0 - 300 PSI test gauge. Check the fluid level while it's in park at a normal operating temperature. Did you use Mercon V ATF? How many miles are on it?

235k miles. Yes I used Mercon V. I will figure out how to test hydraulic pressure.

I did check fluid level after filling and reaching operating temp. The fluid didn't seem to be very warm after 15 mins or so. Starting to think it could be a faulty pump.

Update...

After more research I thought I'd try something...

I started explorer and let it warm up. I then applied the parking brake and ran it through the gears while applying lots of throttle. It finally "kicked in". Engagement is slow but at least it will drive now.

I will report back once/if I make the 2 hour trip home.

You stated you changed the fluid, did you also change the filter?

Did you make the appropriate sacrifice? A human sacrifice is the only sure way to revive a 5r55. It's time to evaluate your preference for your Ex versus your first born (and possibly your second born).

These transmissions are hungry for blood.

Many people are not aware that the Mayan's invented the 5r55. That's what started them down the road to human sacrifice.

Of course, it didn't work for them either but what choice did they have? RockAuto wasn't in business yet.

If it has 235K miles then maybe it's just worn out? I have the 6R60 but from what I've read here you were lucky to get to 235K. In fact, if you bought it used the transmission has probably already been replaced - maybe twice. If it's original then it probably spent it's entire life on the interstate as a pilot vehicle.

I wish you luck but I'm not sure you will find a simple fix.

LOL. I didn't take the sacrifice into consideration. I do have a 6r60 in another explorer with 200k, it's still going strong.

The vehicle in question is a 2007 V6 4wd. I got it at 200k. It was previously a state vehicle so it's been maintained pretty well. Engine still runs perfect.

It may be time for a rebuild.

Unfortunately, it appears that even though they put it in the same vehicle the V6 transmission is not in the same league as the 6R60. If I'm not mistaken, the V8 transmission was put in the F150s also.
Seems odd since the first gear in the 60 is so low - a V6 would have no trouble at all taking off. I guess it was the higher gears that killed it. The V6 probably just didn't have the torque to support the higher gears.

FWIW - I was kidding about the first born. A beloved pet MAY do it. But you have to really like it - the kid's hamster doesn't count :chug:
