Another Issue with my X

Hey guys, I guess you saw my old thread that I have issues on my X and now I come with 2 more issues that are currently going on. I have 98 E.B. Series 4.0 SOHC engine.

1) I noticed last night when i was going into a garage parking at the mall, I rolled down my windows and I heard my X squeaking like if it was an old $hitty wagon or really old old vehicle. When I was driving slowly into the garage the squeaking wouldn't stop. I parked my vehicle and when I was getting off my seat and off my truck it squeaked while parked. I was like what is that. So I got off and I started to rock the vehicle by hand left to right, and it was squeaking when I was rocking it. I was like WTF is that squeaking. It sounded like it was coming from the back two wheels or tires, I don't know, but it sounds nasty.

2) Last night as well, my headlights didn't go on, only my parking lights. The switch where you put high beam or low beam wasn't working. So I drove in the dark last night. I was thinking that the whole stick where you turn your signals on is not working. I had this same problem with my old X and turned out to be it was that stick. It wasn't the switch or the bulbs or any electrical problems. Now I can't drive my X at night cause no light at night. I've had a nightmare with my all of a sudden. I've been thinking about trading my X for an Infiniti QX4 or a Lexus RX, even though it's a very pricy car but I'm just sick and tired of problems. Please help if you can. :(

I have the same type of squeek, only mine is coming from the drivers front wheel. It's got be a bearing/joint/shock/thingamabob....theres only oh, about a hundred different parts that can go squeek. :confused:
 






Very likely leafspring and/or control arm bushings - when i accellerate when it's dry/not-so-humid out, my leafsprings squeak, too. I had the control arm bushings replaced when i had my balljoints done. (I've heard) The LS bushings are a PITA to get out and back in, so i haven't done it, but will come Spring.

The Headlight issue can be resolved by replacing the mutifunction switch (@ $59 or so from Ford). Relatively easy to do, but i have yet to do it b/c 1. The problem is intermittent and i haven't yet been without headlights (***knocking on wood desk***) and 2. don't have $60 to throw at it yet.

You'll find that the wipers will go crazy at times due to a bad multifunction switch, too!
 






Pull the bulbs and make sure they haven't blown. If they are fine, there is a problem with the headlight switch. It won't matter about the multifunction switch. I'd start with the headlight switch. If that doesn't work and you have the overhead console, there is a Lamp Out module that goes bad and causes problems with the headlights, but usually that causes just Hi beams or only one headlight to work.
 






My bulbs are fine, I don't think two bulbs would blow at the same time and also I tested my bulbs and they're in working order.
 






Do you get ANYthing lights when you wiggle the turnsignal stalk? Problems with wipers while on intermittent wipe? If not then i would agree w/ Tom that your switch may have gone bad
 






We call them "Muliti-F@#k-Up" switches at work. They can cause the high and/or low beams to stop working, you can normally see or smell some burning on the connector. Be aware that message centers with lamp out warning modules can cause the headlamps to not work also, as the power to the headlamps runs right through them. If you plan to get rid of your truck for those two problems, let us know, I'm sure someone would be interested in it!!
