Hi all! I'm new here, a guy I know recently aquired a 94 explorer after he parted out/scrapped his old one that was literally not worth fixing. I tried to convince him to do anything but scrap, until I crawled under and looked at it...
Anyway, he's going to be in the market for a new clutch soon, so I figured I would check out some sites and maybe find him a place that knows these in and out and can help him...and me if I end up helping him install it.
The 94 is a 5 speed with lock out 4wd, it just rolled over 200k but seems pretty solid, the body panels look straight, and it has a fresh interior that really looks nice IMO.
Personally, I'm more of a sub-compact guy, I have a 94 Aspire that was in perfect running condition, and I decided to rip its' heart out! I'm just a couple parts away from dropping a 1.8 DOHC BP from a protege in, with a 1991 Merc Capri 5 speed, MFactory Helical LSD, MegaSquirt 2, and sooner or later I have a GT2554r that will be on it.
Anyway, I look foward to learning more about these Explorers, my father owned a 99 he bought new, and totaled it in 2005, it was a good running vehicle so I never did more than oil changes and spark plugs, basic tune up stuff, then he bought an 02, both were auto's with the push button 4wd, he swore by explorers, I like them, but the gas milage sucks, so I'm not driving one.
