another rear end whine thread

I have an 05 xlt 4.0 with the rsc advance Trac. The rear end has been whining. At first it was at speeds above 50 and only when I let off the accelerator I believe. But now it whines after about 40-45 no matter what. I know someone who owns a shop and he told me he would rebuild the transfer case. It would cost 600$ he said something about grinding something down because they were oversized bearings. It was a few months ago. Is there a chance the noise will go away if I change the fluid? Thanks for the time

You need to figure out where the noise is coming from. However, If the fluid hasn't been changed in a while, it sure wouldn't hurt. It needs to be put on a rack and use a stethoscope to isolate the noise. Then go from there.
