what is the function of the two black plastic strips between the front and rear wheels. is it for looks or some type of air spoiler ???:us:

Sounds like "running boards" to me ???? If so, they are for appearance, and maybe help getting in and out.

maybe just mud or debris flaps. To protect the oil or trans cooler in front and the spare tire in back. My best guess without a pic based on my 05 EB.

Only plastic between the wheels is a decorative trip mold or the running board.

Some Explorers that didn't come with running boards, came with frame covers.

My parts Mounty I bought yesterday has these frame covers. First time I have ever seen them.
