I have a 2002 XLT Explorer. The problem started as a door ajar light. I looked around the internet and used WD40 on the sensors at the doors.

Now the damn thing went crazy and the alarm gets tripped by itself. I had to remove the 20 amp fuse to the horn so I could sleep.

When I am driving it also says door ajar and starts autolocking the doors and even the interior light comes on.

It seems that the problem is common as I have seen other people complaining about it. What is not clear is the answer how to solve it. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks!:exp:

Is there anybody out there with at least an idea. This is driving me crazy. i love the Explorer but this is very annoying.

id get some brakecleen and blast the hell out of all of the door locks, then blast them again with some wd40...

did you try to disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes and reset everything?

If WD-40 in the latches didn't fix it, it's probably the other common cause - broken ground wire. It involves removing the interior door panel, cutting the ground wire that goes into the wire loom that goes through the door grommet and into the side of the dash, and connecting the ground to a bare metal point inside the door. Do a bit of searching on this forum, you'll find several people who did this fix - it's not hard.

thanks for your suggestions. I will try disconnecting the battery to see if the system resets. I found also a thread with information on the RAP module. Hopefully I won't have to replace this.

Now if it is the broken ground wire, what is the best way to diagnose which of the doors is shorting out?

Perhaps your battery is on its last legs and the voltage drop is causing the alarm to sound.
