Ive been around this site for a while without a SN, but finally got one to post about my cracked head.

Turns out, only about 20 people even opened it because I guess it had 'heads' in the title and that didnt interest them. Nobody replied.

It seems like this message board is more about getting a dealer to put on a certain tire, or what size damn klenex fits in the arm rest or something.

I just read a post where 75% of people had trouble and many questions regarding adjusting the TPS because they didnt understand how to us a voltage meter. Couldnt anyone explain to these people that the reasons the voltage meter showed 1.0 volt on a 1.5 volt battery was because he has it sent to read a high reading such that a low reading was obviously going to get rounded.

Has anyone here even taken off the heads to their engine?

I guess im just used to being on Zcar.com where it seems like there are true diehards that know their stuff.

Not to be mean, but are those people around here?

Paul

I agree there are alot of people on here who ask the same questions but thats what makes this board great. you can come on here ask a simple question and not get flamed for it. There are many people on here that are willing to help you out with any problem you have. There are alot of hardcore guys on here who have done a lot of wild stuff to there trucks. I've done alot of stuff to my truck that i probably would'nt have done or thought of if it wasnt for this board.

There are tons of people here that know how to do extensive engine work. I myself dont know much about internals but I am learning from this site. And believe me, this site is more than just asking dealers and kleenex boxes. Maybe you have just been reading the wrong threads but the people here know what they are doing. Every question I have asked has been answered with great knowledge of the part that I had a question about. Give the forum a chance at answering your question before writing something like that as your first post. You may not get the response you want with a first post like that. Hope you get everything straightened out and the answers you need. Welcome to the site.

I don't know what forum you've been reading, but apparently you didn't do enough. This site has the most extrensive ammount of info on Ford Explorers you will find anywhere, along with many many members who know a lot about the stock components and modifying them. Its a free world. If this site isn't up to you standards, than don't come here.

I have seen the few people that install crazy lifts.. thats amazing. But i rarely read about anything serious.
Im not trying to degrade people.. but the TPS post just kills me..80 replies about exactly how to do it or not sure if its worth it because not many others are showing interest. Just a lil weird .

And whats with the fast food comment? Guess I just dont get it.

so with all that said did you ever get the answer to your question? how long was it posted? sometimes i posts crap that noone looks at. sometimes it takes awhile. sometimes if one person gives a good solid answer then noone thinks they need to. just throwing out some suggestions to try and help. did zcar.com answer your question? if not maybe try a new thread with a different subject field here... good luck and welcome to the site..

Yeah, I just found your post and you have to let it sit there for more than 2 days before you can start complaining. ;) The right person will come along and see it. Usually the weekends are slower too, so you might not get an answer very quickly. If it gets buried just reply to it and say "bump" to move it to the top of the list again.

Hi everyone. I hope this doesnt turn into some flaming thread against me lol.
I was just somewhat amused by how some threads get hundreds of views while mine got 20 when it was about something like getting one of our beloved explorers back on the road.

Ive been reading my post again and again and everytime I read it seems a little nastier. Sorry about that. I was in a bad mood I guess after getting back from the machine shop where indeed they confirmed that even those minute cracks will leak water enough to make it garbage.

Thanks for the replies to this post atleast, and hope no ones too mad.

Oh, I don't think anyone here is mad. I would help ya,. but I don't know anything about heads.:D

I have tons of experience tearing down engines. I have not had the head off an X yet but need to pull mine soon. (lifter noise) What are the questions?

With over 16.000 members, there are bound to be lots of newbies, but many with lots of experience also.

I haven't done my heads yet but will soon, maybe I can help?

He's got cracks on his heads and wants to know if they are junk.

Just posted in the other thread.

hes already got his answer. but i have a question for you. i replaced the lifters in a 400 without removing the heads. just for my knowledge incase i need to. how is the 4.0 different? thanks

Maybe if you had put the thread in the "Under the hood" section, more tech type guys would look at it.

Most people browsing "General" are doing just that, looking for general info, not tech stuff.

And always, give any thread time:)

Gotta pull the heads on the OHV to change lifters. Only 400 that springs to mind is the pontiac 400. those engines are cake to work on.

Ford had a 400. My dad's old Ranchero GT had one.:D

The 400 is the same engine group/block as the 351. My boss has one in a huge 70's lincoln Grand Marquis. The car is so big it's underpowered. I drove it one day and had pull out into traffic where you can't see well and it was very scary.
And whats with the fast food comment? Guess I just dont get it.
Robb drumroll please ;)

Just ran across your post here. Patience is the key on this site. Yes - there are some incredibly gifted techies here, and more than a few "how do I change my oil?" newbies, and a few complete idiots too I suppose - just as in real life <g>. This is a place that welcomes all levels of knowledge and desire to learn. Trust me, this site can produce awesome results for you. I know you were probably frustrated when you wrote this post, but the high end knowledge on here will rock you. Give it time. BTW I posted on your Q on the Under the Hood site.

Happy Exploring

Chris
