'96 XLT
I have a 96 XLT, I bought it 2 years ago now right after they replaced the tranny. I havent really had any major issues with the tranny besides burning through tranny fluid faster than usual. A couple months after I got the truck the O/D off light started blinking after I would drive for awhile. Then a year and a half ago my transfer case went out and had that replaced. The blinking stopped for a couple months again. There are times when it blinks everytime i am driving and there are days, sometimes even weeks that go by without it blinking.
Also about a year and a half ago my speedometer went out and replaced the speed sensor and it worked just fine again. Then last March it started doing it again except it pops back on every once in awhile.
At about the end of this last summer I started noticing that my truck was burning oil pretty bad. But now it is at the point where I have to put at least 2 quarts in every 2 weeks or so. For some reason all my fluids just keep disappearing. I have to dump tranny fluid in about once a month, oil every 2 weeks, and I have used a whole jug of antifreeze up in a week. I have been watching for leaks since summer but I still haven't seen anything. And now for the last 2 days it has just been running like total "crap". When I start my truck the engine starts ticking pretty loud until its warm, then I dont hear it again for the rest of the day. And then yesterday morning it didnt want to start. I had to push the gas down so that it would stay running. (My RPM's were crap so couldnt stay running) Im not sure if it could be somehow related, but usually when Im driving down the highway (60-65mph) my RPMS usually stick around 2500. But for the last week or two, they are at about 1500-2000 and just runs and drives bad. Sorry that this was kinda long, but I am really running out of options on fixing this thing. My shackles snapped yesterday night and gotta get those done asap. Any advice on the other stuff would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like oil pump starting to fail and the rings maybe going. the transmission may e over heating causing the burn smell.
