I just started swapping in an EB d44 into my 90 Bronco2 and I have a set of 12" King coilovers Im going to use. I was just wondering if anybody else has gone the c/o path so maybe I could see some pix or get some tips before I start cutting and welding on mine.
I've got 4 Co's on my Bii. The front is on a D35 but I have a work in progress with mounts already welded on the up coming D44 swap. It's narrowed 6" on pass. side. It came out of a 79 F150 Super Cab. I'm going to use the same top hoop mounts.
The rear are outboard mounted and top mounts attach to the rear cage. Plenty of pics if you have the time. Plus the rear is a wristed radius armed 8.8 axle
In fact tomorrow I'll be designing the lower link of the upcoming 4link mod for the frame end.
I do know that one of the coilmounts I had to actually weld the mount up on the knuckle of the 44.
Ballistic fab makes a similiar mount also.
this is the up coming D44 swap. Here is the pic of the coilover mount up on knuckle. The Coils are Fox 10" which I really need longer ones. But this is a street legal ride. This truck rides like a dream with those Co.s. No sway bars front or rear. But then again this is a light truck.
Check out the outboard torque arm/coilover suspension transfering the torque to the frame and tires.
Good luck. This old man is going to bed. Getting up at 3:30 and taking the chopped top deer hunting. Then coming back and working on the D44 thing. See ya
Are you going with a radius arm set-up or a linked set-up? It should be pretty straight forward for you if you are going with radius arms. The major things to fab up would be some shock hoops, trac-bar bracket and the radius arm bracket/tranny X-member combo.
There's a few companies offering pre bent shock hoop kits for about 50 bucks if you don't have your own bender.
Anyways, let's hear your build plans and we can help you out better
So far my plan is to extend the stock EB radius arms another 8-10 inches and put a good joint on the end. My truck already has James Duff dual front shocks with the Duff hoop which I was concidering modifing to use as my c/o mount. But I did find some of those 50.00 universal shock hoops also so we will see once I get to that point.
I am also swapping in a 87 EFI 5.0 and c4 trans. Im doing the motor swap first so I will know what kind of room I have under the oil pan, over the intake and on either side to work with.
IM keeping the Duff trans crossmember and will build off that for my radius arm brackets. And Im leaning towards pickin up Ballistics universal trackbar mount with the adjustable mounting.
BTW, Rookie.....have any pix of your core support? I was thinking of doing the same thing!
This is all I got. The top support swivels up to release rad. Or top support can be completely removed so engine just pulls straight out once rad. is removed.
