My new Ex was once a smokers vehicle. I got the interior shampoo'd and ozoned, and the smoke smell is gone... until I turn on the heat or A/C. They even ran the HVAC system with the ozone generator in, but it didn't rid the smell.

Is there a filter in the the system somewhere that can be replaced? Anyone ever done this?

I think I remember seeing mention of a filter in the Owners Manual but I don't think it mentioned how to replace it...

My '04 dosn't have one i think the '05 is the same thing. I once heard that if you turn turn the heater control to Recir. and drop the glovebox down, you can shot a good stream of Lysol, or something in the vent door. Might help . . .

There is no filter in a 3rd gen Explorer, unfortunately. I get a bit of a smell of mold when I turn the AC on after my truck sits in the heat. Not a problem now that it's 28 degrees outside, but next spring I'll figure out the best access to the evaporator core (probably behind the glovebox), shove something in there and hose it down with some sort of Lysol or something.
