My 1st/2nd synchro is shot. I can't even shift normally, I have to shift extremely slow. I'm wondering if I can replace the synchro myself, and what special tools would be needed if any.
History: About 35k ago, and 3 years, I had the trannsmission rebuilt (The truck had 95k on it at the time). It was making noise in every gear but 4th. I took it out myself and gave it to a shop, they rebuilt it, put a new 5th/reverese synchro in it, and I reinstalled it.
About a year ago I knew the 1/2 synchro was going out. Now it's really bad. I can even downshift to second unless I match the revs with the speed.
I hate the M50D, it's hard to shift, the hydraulic clutch system works like crap and isn't reliable. I really don't want to put any money into it, but I'm going to have to. If money and time where of no concern, I'd seriously consider a T5 or T56 swap, but those will get crazy expensive, especially being a 4x4.
So I'm left with fixing my transmission, or getting another used one. (Which is a $1000 at junk yards) Anyone have an idea on what parts would cost? And also what tools would be needed? Taking the tranny out is routine for me, ignore that part of the disassembly.
I tried searching but found nothing...
btw, I will be going to the shop that did the rebuild and see what they have to say. I got a 1 year/unlimited miles warranty, but that is expired.
