Had the idea last night and then decided to check crutchfield and sure enough they had them. This is the sub enclosure that goes where that net pocket thing is in the back. I wanna know if anyone has ever used one and how they liked it OR if anyone has made a custom one and what they did for it. I really want to make one myself cause 1. $135 for an enclosure is alot more then I wanna spend and 2. I want it to look more factory (make a mesh grille and everything). Heres the link that I found and any info would be :thumbsup::thumbsup:

O and I dont want to use a box behind the seats cause thats takes up alot of room and I just like things to be low key/stealthy........................sometimes lol.

I just used a factory 8" sub enclosure stuffed with poly-fill and replaced the sub with my JL sub and it sounds awesome...

...like really good :)

Factory??? Sorry to sound dumb but i've never messed with explorers so i've never seen one lol. Im gonna look for them right now. O and what years and models did they come with? Also how does your hit and how much was your sub? Ive never had a sub face sideways so im just wondering how it'll hit compared to a forward facing one. I dont need much I just want a lil bit more :D.

This was my order from onlinecarstereo.com

It hits hard- if I was into hard hitting bass. I really don't listen to much, but when I have people listen to it, they pop it in, and it hits very hard for what it is. Don't underestimate the amp, I know a few members here have gotten the setup and love it. It sounds really, really good- way beyond my expectations...

It's basically like this setup from Kent's truck, only a newer sub rack, which holds an 8" sub.

Only difference is the difference on the size of the subwoofer. Here is what you're looking for:

Double post- here is a picture of a bacon sandwich to fill the space...

Cool thanks man! Im goin to the junkyard this week, I think, to get an alternator for one of my mustangs so i'll keep my eyes peeled for one of the boxes (doubt i'll find one though lol). My mom doesnt even want this (its her Ex) but I think I HAVE to do it lol. Hopefully I wont have to many problems with the factory amp (ive read they are a PITA).

A side firing sub works good. I had my sub firing forward. It sucked. I aimed it down & it fills the cab like two subs. In a X rear firing boxes work good.

Apperantly you went the factory sub box route, but for the sake of keeping up a helpfull thread I would like to input that I built a "stealth box" my self. I used a Kicker CVR and a 350 watt Alpine amp and I was not only impressed but totally thrilled with how it sounds. I was kind of leary about a side fireing sub but with it being in that cavity in the side of the truck the sound carries thru the cab exceptionally well. It sounds just like average rear fireing systems with 2 10 or 12 inch woofers with moderate power. I have heard throughout the forums here though that the JL and MTX boxes do not sound that good. Other than the factory boxes with an 8 inch woofer, I think a custom box with a 10 is the way to go if you want that solid loud bass with out taking up your cargo space. I built my box based on this thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86333

This gives you more internal volume then the manufactured boxes which in turn gives you more air movement from the sub, which gives you more sound. This box sounds awesome! Thank you V8BoatBuilder for the thread you put on!
