well, since I totalled my 02' XLS, I got more money than I paid from the insurance company... and now i'm looking at an 02' XLT with third row seating...

lets just say my birthday is next nsunday (which it is) and I have no choice on the explorer I'm getting... but I once recalled people complaining about the 3rd row seating being a complete and total rip off as far as ###ntionality and looks... and I remember it was a problematic change for car audio people...

but thats what I heard... I want some facts, anyone know if my 42" wide 11 cu ft sub box will fit? haha... but regardless, I WILL fit two 15"s...

From the explorer's I've seen w/ 3rd row, you'll have a hard time getting 11ft3 back there....

Why do you want 3rd row seating?

I guess I have just been in a hole somewhere...but I never have seen an explorer with 3rd row seating! Anyone got pics of theirs???

the new ones can have them....

and back on the subject, I saw a ex w/ 6cuft behind their 3rd row w/ 2 12"s and it looked TIGHT!

I have an 04 limited with the third row seats. you could fit 2 15's in there but not with an 11cu ft box. what 15's do you have as after spending 10 years in the car audio industry there arent too many 15's that cant get away with 3 cu ft each and a chunk of power...........so you could probably get away with only 6 cu ft. but again it depends on the woofers in question. hope this helps mate

lol

well, I'm well aware of the sub's abilities that I have, currently from my old totalled explorer they were in a huge low freq SPL box, ~11 cu ft, after all displacement including a port of 150 sq inches tuned at 26hz (yes, it was a really long port to make, not to mention it took up 2 sheets of MDF) and 2000 watts divided among the subs. they are the MB Quart 314 15"s (their top of the line)

I designed it to take the MECA DB3 driveby record... unfortunately I didn't finish the setup for this year's competitions and then just two weeks later crashed my explorer...

I don't have a choice as my parents are in charge of helping me get another good deal (insurance is giving us more than we paid for my last explorer) and the model I'm about to buy is the 2002 xlt, it's better than my older XLS, I'm all for it since it's better, unfortunately it's got 3rd row seating, but for $15K I can't pass it (yea, we got auction hookups, my neighbor is the auctioneer)

now... if I have to, I will remove the 3rd row seat, I will have 2 15"s... besides I gotta have room to fit a bigger amp, my concept 2400 only did 200 watts at 12.5 volts, so I'm gonna buy a bigger more powerful amp...

bleh..

well, MB Quart says they can't be used to ported boxes, I simply got all the parameters for the subs from them (since they don't like to publish all their info) and sure enough they were right, but I was able to design a box, tuned low enough, to play them with 1000 watt+ to each safely... and plus they are rated at 800 watts rms... but after getting a closure look at them I was impressed by the motor assembly, the basket was an entirely new design meant for room for the inverted surround to move up and down, and from what I saw it had 3 spiders to my surprise, they said the spiders stop the sub from hitting the back plate which is great, meaning I can overpower it without worrying, and wow, to my surprise their BS 1" XMAX was well beyond that and closure to what my brahma did, unfortunately not the SQ of XBL^2, but tuned soo low with a 9db peak at only 31hz I didn't expect perfect sound. but hey, it sure was louder than my 18" x.. was with 1800 watts.

ironically the ONLY suggested size box MB QUART makes for my sub is 2.5 cubic feat sealed per sub. it'd fit, but I refuse to lose some spl, lol. it's obvious from the spiders used that it's designed for sealed boxes, but sacrificing sq for ported it shows a nice peak for spl.

Yeah man you just gotta get really custom and make a new box to fit in there

well, the deal fell through, I'm without an suv, but at least I can look foward to something possibly without a 3rd row seat, since most explorers don't have it anyhow.
