Anyone in the Detroit area want to do me a favor?

I noticed in the sales brochure that a universal garage door opener is standard on a limited but I can't find it. They are usually embedded in the drivers visor, at least every ford I've had over the last 25 years, that's where it was.

I was out looking at how hard or easy it would be to change plugs and I noticed there is no dipstick for the trans on the 6R80. Am I missing something and just not seeing it or does it not exist?

If it is on the driver's side then it is for oil. The only dip stick for the 6R60/80 transmissions is a very short one in the fill hole. It is located on the upper part of the transmission on the passenger side. The only aftermarket dip stick i have seen for these transmissions are mounted on the passenger side firewall.

It's definitely a 30 footer, you get up close and the wheels are in bad shape.
I have the same rims that are in a little better shape. I plan to have mine painted or powder coated. To have them mirror polished and clear coated is to costly for a 15 year old vehicle with over 150k miles on it. It is definitely not a garage queen.

I bought the dorman heater hose, found it on sale on rock auto for 59 bucks. The local vato zone wants 120 for it and amazon does not have it, but they do have the original ford part for 186. For 59 bucks, I'll take my chances with the dorman.

Sorry to disappoint you but this dorman hose is a waste of money.

The oem hose will last approx 5 to 8 years while this chinese junk will last about a year or two depends on your area summer heat.

It will probably leak from the first day since the hoses arent the right diameter from factory

Unfortunately Dorman is no longer a legitimate supplier and hasn't been for several years. They just mark up "no name" Chinese junk -- the kind you get on Amazon for $6. Most of their stuff is a hoax and doesn't last more than a couple of months. Their sales have dwindled to 20% of what they were fifteen years ago. People are learning.

Hopefully your hose will be the odd one out, that actually doesn't leak.

I'm in suburban Cleveland so summer heat is not an issue.

I plan on reusing the factory clamps on the doorman, the spring clamps that the factory uses are more reliable and hold tighter and seal better than the worm gear type that doorman gives you. I noticed also that doorman has replaced the worm gear clamps on the ends where it attaches to the factory hose barbs with spring clamps but still include worm gear style where the hose attaches to the T fitting. Once I get the old hose out and on the bench, I plan on carefully cutting apart the factory plastic T fitting to salvage the original hoses. If the doorman hoses do leak, I'll just reuse the factory hoses with the doorman metal T fitting.

As I mentioned earlier, replace the exhaust manifold heat shield while you are in there if is rusted enough to let heat radiate to adjacent parts. My old heater hoses had areas where they were exposed to high heat. A new hear shield cost me around $15-$20. Since you are installing a Dorman part, it can use all the protection you can give it.

Where did you find the heat shield? I checked rock auto and all they have is a universal one.

Find the oem part number and Google search it. You should get several hits for dealers or Ford oem parts sites. I have been using Grok AI to find information about oem part numbers and many other things. It is a heck of a lot easier than doing time consuming Google searches. The accuracy of what it gives is impressive from what I have used it for. Obviously, don't bet your life on what it says.

Not recommended to reuse the old hoses since they are tend to deteriorate over time

I got the old one out and the T fitting is fine, the downward leg of the hose that goes to the rear heater has a hole in it, probably from the heat. The plastic sheathing that was around the lower hose was burnt and melted.

You can try to secure the new one to the a/c accumulator metal pipes using plastic zip ties

It was already, I'm going put some aluminized heat shield sleeve over it to protect it.

The new dorman hose setup had a larger diameter hose on the lower leg going to the rear heater core, but the upper and the front was the same size as the original. I couldn't reuse the old hose on the metal dorman tee, dorman made the new tee with two large nipples and one small nipple, a total opposite of the factory tee. The factory tee had a large nipple on the front that goes back to the engine and the top nipple that goes to the heater control valve was smaller, and the nipple that goes to the rear heater was small. But the dorman tee has a large nipple on the front and rear and only the top one is small. So anyway, since I had to use the complete dorman setup, I made a few revisions. Down underneath where the tubes are for the rear heater the tube has a small hose barb to keep the hose in place and larger barb used as a hose stop, but the dorman hose would slip right past the large stop barb, so I triple clamped the lower hose. I slid the hose on past the large stop barb and put one clamp in front where the clamp should go, and two more after the large stop barb. Apparently it worked because I used a vacuum fill tool and pulled the entire cooling system down to 26" of vacuum, closed it off and walked away for 3 hours. When I returned it was still at 26" so if it holds that for 3 hours, it should not leak. Only time will tell. I also put a heat shield sleeve over the whole lower hose section and over part of the front hose where its next to the exhaust.

Yeah

Dorman hose is a total junk.it will leak no matters what. Mine held approximated 1 - 1.5 years max or so
Ended with purchasing the oem one.

Next time do yourself a favor and dont waste your money on chinese junk
