A friend and I were in Advance AutoParts looking for some stuff to dress up his Maxima when I saw what looked like a tiny air filter. It's supposed to hook up to your PVC valve or something. DOes anyone know what this does or if buying this 10 dollar filter thing will help me at all.

My dad tells me that it would actually be hurting me.

i think its a pcv valve...and i doubt that an over priced APC one will do any better than the ones that cost $1.39

Thats called a breather cap... It would probably replace the PCV valve completely. I have one on the Mach 1, as the oil cap on one valve cover, and a PCV valve in the other valve cover. I would not run one on a street car b/c you'd have to ditch the PCV valve, which could cause some problems. The PCV valve maintains crankcase vaccuum and helps the rings seal better. It also sucks fuel fumes outta the crankcase and re-injects them into the intake for re-combustion, otherwise your oil will get contaminated. Plus, with a breather you usually get a nose-full of fumes.
