'94 Explorer Sport
I have a '94 Explorer sport that I got back in 2000, and it has just over 110k miles on it now. So far, the thinks that have failed are:

The power lock switch on the passenger side

The gauges stopped working (except the speedo of course) but I ran a new
power wire for them and they work again

The A/C (which I will have serviced this weekend)

The driver side lower door hinge is making the door sag (got a new one from Ford for $35)

Some solenoid under the hood went out and mad the check engine light come on. I have a code reader, and I replaced the part.

I blew an auto hub when I was stuck in the mud. That one was my fault.

I'm wondering if there are items that are known to commonly fail among high mileage explorers? I don't want this thing to start to nickle and diming me, its been extremely reliable besides for the few minor problems that cropped up and I like having it as my daily drive.

DEFINETLY check your tranny - i have heard bad things about flushing if its never been flushed, but maybe a fluid change is in order.

think about the tranny...

the A4LD is in many people's opinions one of the biggest weak links.

kepping the fluid clean and to proper capacity is a must and a aux trans cooler and filter is a good idea in my opinion
