I've done a search on the Aussie locker and it sounds good but I have a question. It appears that you cannot install it on a factory limited slip rear end, so if I have to get an open 8.8 what year did they put disc brakes on the explorers and can I swap a newer 8.8 on my 92?

You can just by a new open diff from Ford. I've seen them on the fordracing website. I seem to remember them being reasonably priced. Oh, forget it. I see you're looking to get a new complete axle housing w/ disc brakes. Good luck. They should be pretty plentiful in the bone yards.
