Auto dimming rear view mirror

I've got an 02 EB that I bought used and the auto dimming rear view mirror doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like normally but it seems to be always dimmed and doesn't change. There is a green light on it and a switch but it doesn't seem to matter whether it's on or off. Any assistance would be appreciated, thanks.
