Ok on the way to work this morning my O/D OFF light started to flash. I looked in the book and it of course says to take it to Ford and have it checked out.
Has anyone had this happen? If so, what was the problem? I've had it for a whole 11 days now and it only has 55000 miles on it. I would think it should last longer than 55K.

I had the exact same problem....my truck was still under the extended warranty...ford replaced the WHOLE transmission. Something about the torque convertor. But they said they got such conflicting codes....that they would just swap out the whole thing. Does your truck clunk when slowing down to a stop now???

YUP.
Lucky me.
Anyone know what the cost of a new tranny might be?

It'll run you about $2000 for a rebuild.

OK guys wish me luck.
I called the dealer I bought it from and they said bring it in and they would take care of it. (no charge) !!!
I hope they are not just screwin with my mind.
We'll see

The first time it happened to me....I took it in.....Ford said they took care of it....come to find out....all they did was reset the computer...the problem stopped for about 2 days..came back....then they finally decided to do the swap.

I'll keep that in mind when I take it in.
Thanks

I got my truck back today. (I was on vacation so I told them to keep it all last week.) Of course all they did was reset the comp. I'm not sure if I'm happy about that but they said if it happens again they will "take care of it".
So out of the 26 days I've owned my first Ford it's been in the shop 11.
Not good odds. (I hope the % lowers)
What are the chances that the reset did the job? - We'll see.
I can say that my dealer is being good about all of this, they are not charging me since I had only had it for a little over a week. Plus they fixed a couple of little things (4 free) I noticed since taking it home.

I think I miss my Chevy.

Go go: Dead Link Removed and check out "What happened to my overdrive".
Perhaps this could help.
Good luck.

Same thing happened to mine. O/D light started flashing and it started shifting funny and clunking while stopping. I was lucky though. The comp reset did the trick and it hasn't returned. :)

How many miles have you put on it since the reset Stephen?
I've got about 150 now and no more light.

It was a good while ago when that happened...I would say over a year and at least 15000 miles.

When it happened to me the tranny guy put the truck on a diagnostic machine and it gave him code 513. He cleared the memory, drove it, tested it, no code....drove it, tested it, no code. It's been fine ever since.

Here's the thread I started when it happened to me if you'd like to read it: http://208.38.138.31/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18961&highlight=O/D+light+flashing

Just out of curiosity, what is the name of your dealer? I am in Mesa too.

It was actually the dealer in Oracle, outside of Tucson.

WONDERFUL NEWS - It started flashing again last night, and the "check engine" light also came on. WOO HOO

We'll see if the dealer is getting sick of me yet or if he is still my friend.

GO FORD!!!
