2005 Explorer XLT
Hey all,

Just wondering about the autolocks on my 2005 explorer XLT. When I take off driving all of my locks automatically lock. That's fine, but when I put the car into park and open the drivers door they don't unlock (2006 explorers work this way). Since the rear passengers door handles do not mechanically release the lock when they are pulled (child locks are off) I have to hit unlock so that my adult passengers can get out. Am I just missing the setting that unlocks the locks or am I SOL and ford is saving me from myself? Thanks for the help!

Larry

My 2003 works exactly the same and it's a PITA. Don't feel alone...we are all SOL!

I have the same situation, however, everything changed after a dealer installed remote starter and security system. At park, all my passengers can open their doors without me having to unlock.

My front doors can be opened from the inside at ANY time. The back doors can only be opened from the inside if the child locks are off. My '02 XLT auto locks just like my '95 Thunderbird does (with the exception of the TBird not having rear doors).

That can be changed through your message center. Instructions are in your manual.

I can't find anything about having the rear doors unlock in the manual. I can only turn the auto locks on and off (meaning the doors lock when I start to drive, but they don't unlock). If there is something i'm missing please let me know.

Thanks
Larry

I think what they meant was that you can disable autolocks and then there's no need to manually unlock them when needed.

There is procedure in your owners manual to turn off the auto lock feature. I turned it off in all my cars & trucks, it has always been a PIA to me for the reasons you mentioned.

I like having autolocks. It means that if a person of questionable intentions walks too close to my truck he doesn't hear my wife reach over and hit the lock button on the door. That is the meanest look you will ever get is when someone hears you lock the doors as they get near your rig.
