I have a 1996 explorer. The doors will not lock electronically, either from the remote or the buttons, except that the rear button will lock all the doors. (unlocking is not a problem) Since the rear button will lock all the doors, I don't think the problem is with the actuator. This happened after I lent the vehicle to a friend for about a month, but I don't know that either he or his kids could have caused this problem. Any ideas?

Clearly not the actuators, since rear button works. And you imply that everything will unlock correctly. Since neither of the front door buttons or the remote will lock doors, I expect you have issues with the wires in the wiring channel underneath the driver's rear door sill - this is a common problem. Pink/Yellow wires do the door unlock relay; while pink/lt green do the lock relay. Both front switches plus the remote join together before they hit the relay, while rear switch is separate all the way. Good luck.
