Hi All,

Was backing up a snowy hill today in the 04 limited AWD and one rear tire kept spinning. I ended up having to turn around to get up the hill. Does AWD not work in reverse?

Thanks

Certainly a new one on me! As I understand the AWD, surely the viscous clutch coupling the front and rear axles should operate equally well in either forward or reverse. Did the vehicle pull normally going up the hill forward?

Are your tires possibly directional in tread design, such that they pull better forward than backward?

Hope someone more knowledgeable on this speaks up; I'm really wondering......imp

Once I turned around, I went up with no issues. Tires are not directional... Strange how one rear spun and the other 3 or front didnt take up the slack. Maybe the coupling is slipping? IDK.

I always thought the AWD came with a 3.73:1 Limited Slip Axle by default.

Anyone here know otherwise?

Ryan

They might come with L.S., but L.S. tends to become "Lots Slop" when worn out............imp

awd can be open or ls rears.

check axle code if its
45 its 3.55 open
46 its 3.73 open
d4 3.73 ls

only 3 axle codes for 04 ex.

also awd is split 35 front / 65 rear so if the rear is stuck, you might be stuck.

The rear wheels get 70% of the power and the front get 30%. I believe the awd is locked in all the time. That's the way it seems w/ my 00 eb.

04 is 35/65 actually. front to rear.

I thought rear LS only came with the tow package, no matter the engine or drivetrain. At least in 02...

also this is what makes awd sub par to 4x4 but still better then 4x2
