Yes axle code D4 is good. 3.73 limited slip. I would bet that is the most popular code for the rear axle as I have had 3 explorers and they all have had that same rear axle code. Most of the time the factory limited slip won't work. How many miles are on the truck? Has the LS been replaced before? Limited slip transfers power usually to the wheel that's spinning. If your stuck on one side and your spinning your tire on that one side and your other tire is on dry ground, the limited slip will take the path of least resitence and go for the spinning tire with no traction in the mud or whatever your stuck in. If you want to replace the limited slip, go with an automatic locker like a powertrax. You will have power to both wheels then but you may have some handling charertericis that aren't present with a LS, especially when turning and on the snow.

i have a crap load of miles but when i do a burn out i leave two marks and how much would that runme and any spacial skills neaded to upgrade to something like that

Powertrax unit, gasket, lube, About $450.00 do it yourself

but will i be able to tear it aprt and put it all back together corectly i have changed trannyies front supesions does it compare to this in any way with the amount of skill required to do this swap im just afraid that im going to mess something up

The install is very simple, no gear setup, no special tools needed, is time consuming, go to the PT website, you can download the entire install In pdf format

one more ? what kind do i nead. what kind of spline and do i have, a 8.8 or what. i dont no nothing about this stuff now would this locker hel me spin my tires or what beacse as of right know i can a litlle and how hard is to change out the gers should i just do it all at the same time.

Off the top of my head, 8.8 31 spline. Gears....you'll probably need to get them done by a preffessional. Probably run you $300-$400 in just labor not including the gears per axle. As far as spining tires goes, if that's all your concerened about then don't get a locker. It will be a waste of money. Now if you take it off road occasianlly and would like the added traction(Much better traction than a LS) then go with a locker.

ok i live in the midle of know where the neares town is 15 miles away i think ocaisnal off raodding is a comon thing. espcailly when u have to cross flooded creakd and , a hint theny call that a road , they just throw some goavel on the creak bed and thats that so i say its a must and i was just wonderig waht some of the pluses but will help with spining the tires i have been told that it will

If you do not change your ratio ( ring and pinion) the install is a no brainer, will have no effect on spinning your tires, in a perfect world, you do not want your tires to spin.
Go to the PT website, is a huge amt of info

unless ur on pavement and showing off

and the ranger station said that i have dif gears
