After 8 years and 165k miles on the '03 Mountaineer it is to the point of not being worth spending the necessary money for repairs for winter time (need new fuel pump for fuel level sensor to clear check engine light for emissions testing, and rear glass on the hatch needs to be replaced because the latch is broken as a result of the cracked plastic at the bottom).
So, after weighing different options for the past couple weeks, went out and bought a new 2013 Explorer Sport today, for pick-up on Thursday. Ford has come a long way--fit and finish are quite good, and materials are very nice. Comparing to my company car, the Ex isn't giving much up (and gains in other areas), despite having an MSRP almost 50% lower.
No pics yet, but details are:
White Platinum
402A package
Trailer Tow
Dual Panel Moonroof
All Weather Mats (thrown in as an extra)
Will be sure to post pics after getting the car, and also driving comparisons (my wife has already informed me that she is keeping the Cayenne as her car
).
