Since I recently discovered that my engine has the dreaded Timing tensioner issue
and I will no longer be running it hard, so I am going to put it back to the stock configuration. It seems my hardcore fun is over with this X unless I am willing to invest the $1600 to fix it. 11yrs old, 175k mi- Nah.... Better to put it towards something new.
At the present time I am getting about 18mpg all around driving, with a 4wd sport, 4.10 gears and 5psd auto, 255/70/R16 tires. I love to blip the throttle at times and know it gives me poor gas milage, but it is an addiction
I will be selling the truck soon and want to make it last. The Volant intake, 73mm C&L, Custom X-cal tune and 70mm MAC TB will be coming off and the stock parts will be going back on.
I know with the stock air intake less air flow means less fuel and better MPG, though some say that performance parts will enhance MPG? I have not found this to be true for me.
Looking for opinions on whether I should put it back to stock or not for better MPG.
BTW the truck still runs very strong with no noises, leakes or other issues. The only reason I can tell it has the timing issue is when I first start it, I can hear the timing knock for a slight second before the oil rises. Also I found pieces of the timing Tensioner in the oil pan.
