backup switch?

hey i have a '93 ford ranger 4x4 with the 4.0 manual trans. my backup lights dont work and the bulbs are fine. where is the backup switch located? is it part of the clutch safety switch?

If i am correct it is on the top of the transmission with all the shifter linkage parts.

That's correct. It has 2 wires going to it. The switch should have continuity when you shift to reverse.
