Bad Reception on aftermaket radio

I brought a aftermarket cd radio and even local station tend to fade very badly. I thought maybe it could be the unit itself, but I also think if I installed a power ant that might clear it up. Any idea on a am/fm booster that I should buy or should I try a power ant. If so please advise of a good brand to take into consideration.

Hey, I just replaced the radio in my '95 XLT w/ a Sony aftermarket CD player. Not to call you an idiot, but are sure you plugged in the ant lead to the radio. I know this sounds stupid, but in all the installation mess I almost forgot to do this seeing as it is a very tight and short cord. Then I'd check the ant. cable for any damage. In the '95+ it runs right behind the glovebox, just push in the corner of the glovebox and pull out and it will hang down so you can check. If that's not it try a power ant. I wouldn't think its the receiver unless the one you have is defective.

Yep I did plug in the ant. Connection is fine. Radio could be defective. What's a good power ant to purchase?

I'm not sure about that one. I've never had to do it. If you want to know you should problay post a new topic in this forum and ask that question.

dude,
if tou have a 95+, find the front, passenger side kickpanel :right between the glove box and the door. remove it and there should an antenna wire with a connecter connecting the antenna all the way back to the amp. sometimes this connector can come loose and it can cause bad reception. This is the only thing I can think of besides checking out the amp antenna connectors. hope this helps!

Guys, this is a 93 ford explorer. Does it still have a amp connector? If not, what else do i need to check.
