I've read some other threads, but didn't really find what I was looking for. Anyway, after it rains the cabin of my Explorer smells damp and crappy. When I turn on the A/C I can smell it coming from there even more so.

Any ideas on what I can do? If you have pictures of areas to check that would be very helpful.

does it have a sunroof?

Any ideas, lads?

Not sure if this is related:

There might also be a drain for the fresh air intake along the windshield. Maybe the rain is getting in and not draining. Not sure where that drain is but there must be one somewhere. I had another vehicle where I used to have to unstop that drain. It was a rubber hose that extended below the air plenum by the windshield under the hood. Also you could possibly spray something like Lysol into the plenum. Maybe there is some mold or something that needs to be killed. Sometimes my home room ac's stink, and I spray some disinfectant into the fresh air intake, and it fixes the problem.

I have looked at that thread, but I still can't seem to figure out the solution. The evap drain is extremely hard to get to and I couldn't seem to clean it out when I tried. One guy said he used an air compressor to blow it out which I might try, though it seems like it would blow the crap back into the car. One guy said water collected in the A/C box, though I don't know where that is. I wish there were videos on how to do this stuff. I might have to make a video if I ever figure it out even if it helps just one person.

Anyway, thanks for the help, hopefully I'll figure it out someday.

I do have a sunroof but looked all around for water in the cabin etc.
I just find it interesting and want to make it smell better.

I had the same problem could not figure out where it was coming from so i took a can of lysol and turned on a/c then sprayed it in the fresh air intake slots until i could smell it inside vehicle then sprayed down inside of vehicle the next day with it on max air so it was recycling through the vehicle. may not be a cure but it fixed my problem has not smelled bad since and that was 3 months ago

I had the same problem, an found that on the fire wall underneath the "vent"(between the hood and windsheil) their was a crack and it was allowing water inside the cab which was running underneath the carpet into the matting(no water marks on carpet) fixed the crack (jb weld) and then replaced carpet...
