I have a 2004 Ediie Bauer 4.6 with 4x4. Its got 186,000 miles. Transmission is dying, it is throwing the "solenoid B" fault, alond with the "check transmission" message. Several tranny shops say its a broken band and needs a rebuild.

So, the question is, do I drop the $2500-$3000 I am being quoted for a rebuild, or do I give up on this old girl and get a new truck? I have already replaced the front bearings, the AC compressor, and it is in pretty good shape otherwise. It does have a salvage title, but ws repaired well, and has not shown any problems due to its prior front quarter damage.

Are ther any other common major issues in my near future if I fix the tranny?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Bryan

you can check the bands without removing the transmission. i am pretty sure you can't trust transmission guys, due to their only response being "it needs to be rebuilt".

have you changed the tranny fluid and filter at all? my 2005 was doing the same thing and i changed both of those and it runs fine now.

what are the symptoms of your "dying" transmission?

It may be as simple as a bad solenoid block, ~$300.

You're that far into it, you may as well fix it and keep truckin. It's worth more to you than it is to anyone else.

had the same code the p0775... i work at a shop rebuilding allison automatic transmissions so i decided to pull mine apart and try and fix it. its a little bit different setup than an HD allison but was very easy to pull apart non the less. i ended up finding the overdrive servo was broke and the band had somehow burned up more than likely from the servo breaking. while it was out i put an ohm meter on the solenoid block and everything seemed fine with it. i still have to put the tranny back in and test but i'm into everything about $50 and more than likely it will fix my problem.

If you have the ability to pull the tranny its worth a look inside... its much much easier than you think inside of it.
