Well after much debate with myself I have come to realize that folks come to rely heavily on sensors, messages, and lights, when it comes to their vehicles.
I know there are a lot of folks here that are not afraid of lifting the hood or looking underneath their vehicles.
I've noticed many post recently where folks are really pissed off and they wait days or even weeks before they finally take their vehicles to the dealer.
To me thats too many days of wait and no action on behalf of the owner, which in turn could result in more damage had they'd Diagnosed their own vehicle with simple look over of their vehicle, a quick scan under the hood and underhood could can be an easy and two minute deal.
Diagnosis (from ancient Greek διάγνωσις = discernment) is the identification of the nature and cause of anything. Diagnosis is used in many different disciplines with variations in the use of logics, analytics, and experience to determine the cause and effect relationships. In systems engineering and computer science, diagnosis is typically used to determine the causes of symptoms, mitigations for problems, and solutions to issues.[1][2]
You don't have to be a mechanic, if you can take object one and link it up to object two and they don't equal one then that is what I like to call a "CLUE" in the investigative world. For example if you see a oil drip or drop that wasnt there before BAM!! Clue!! Now when you have identified some of that nature, we now take it to the second step. Investigate!! If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck. BAM!! Its a duck.
Investigation
An investigation conducted without definite purpose, plan, or regard to standards of propriety, in hopes of acquiring useful (and usually incriminating) evidence or information; "Leave no Stone unturned" or "go over with a fine-tooth comb"
With respect of how far your own skill, experience, and knowledge may take you.
If you open the hood and pull out the dipstick and you notice that it is below the line, and it being a new vehicle you might want to look into. I.e., look underneath the vehicle or search for a leak...if it was in there before and its not then that should be a "CLUE."
Folks, I know we live in an age where we don't do much for ourselves or have time. If you can check the engine oil and use the search function on Google, you can help yourself by saving frustration, time, and most importantly something this entire country is starting to lack "MONEY."
Lets not forget the basics of checking your fliuds, air pressure, and obvious crap like a banana in the tail pipe.
One thing that I have learned throughout my years in the service. If being pro-active in your own safety, being alert, and adapting to the situations that might arise. The 7 Ps as we call them, "Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance."
So in essence all I'm stating is use your god given senses before you get into your vehicle. Visually inspect for obvious signs of any type of liquid leaks, broken glass. Use your Nose for gas smell, oil smell, and any akward smells (besides the stank from your mouth, if you're one of those who doesn't brush the fungus from your teeth first thing in the morning and purposedly offend the rest of the world with your mouth breathing shenanigans!) before getting into your vehicle. Simple stuff like this can prove useful in caring and maintaining your vehicle.
Sometimes if you live in a wooded or forrestry area and you start your engine and weird sounds or smells omit from under the vehicle and into the cabin and it smells like road kill...could prove to be frustrating, time consuming and annoying at the end of the day.
So if you haven't taken a basic class or course in BASIC automotives, you're doing yourself a great injustice.
Do yourself a favor and save your brand spanking new vehicle and your wallet!!
This is a public service message courteasy of the guy who cares.
