wow none of the knowledgable ppl care to expound on their expertise by assisting in my question. I assumed that there were many knowledgable ppl here that knew 5.0L engines. hmm oh well i guess i need to check this out via other sources....

I don't see the point in putting a different intake on the 5.0 as the intake that came from the factory is outstanding. I've even heard that some 5.0 Mustang owners will replace their intake with one off of an Explorer because it is cheap and will give far better performance than stock. I was reading a 5.0 Mustang magazine that tested this intake on a 302 and it had less low-end torque but more top-end than the Ford GT-40 intake (very similar to the Explorer intake manifold). Personally, I like my power down low so it is easier to scoot around town.

My advice: Skip on the intake, save your money for something else.

As a mustang owner, we do this b/c its cheap performance. You can grab these expo 5.0s outa the junkyard for cheap. The reason being is that its basically a cobra/gt40 intake in design. I dont think the BBk SSI is what your looking for. I personally would keep the stock as is b/c of its potential... you can gain lots of power outa it. Check out http://www.tmossporting.com/ ... He's a great guy and knows everything there is to know about the 5.0. Also, look at getting your stock intake extrude honed and make everything flow perfectly... getting both of these done should be cheaper than the SSI as well as getting the best bang for you buck... just my .02

yup, its a very good intake for mid to high power ranges .. i dont think you want that for your explorer... i've seen many dyno sheets and the power comes in around 3700rpm and up. Stock 5.0 HO intake outperformes it through 3500rpm
