still many on craigslist but municipalities used to buy these and it seems like that for the most part they have already sold theirs... I'm seeing fewer and fewer for sale...

Craigslist still seems to have ones that sound good but sometimes with crazy prices... 4-5k.
Also many are already 200+k miles... And in the much of the country rusts eats them bit by fit... I need to find a bumper for one of my two 1997s... Mine is bent from backing into a light pole and they all seem to rust out anyway...

I see a lot of low mileage cars on craigslist, usually means the owner died and the kids are selling the estate.

I still see plenty of 4.0L Gen 2 Explorers from municipalities. Craigslist has both.
What do you consider low mileage? I have two V8 AWD - one with 75k and other 135k

I've seen a 94 Ford tempo with 26k miles for 2k, a 95 ford contour with 30k miles for 2,500 and a merkur scorpio with 10k miles for 4,500. I see a few V8 explorers in the 50-100k mile range but those typically go for around 3-5k. The best deal I missed was a restored 48 F6 truck for 5k.
