Before I get hitched ..It's time to give the EX a Tune-up!!

Okay,
I have a 1991 EB 4DR w/97K miles. She's been getting crappy MPG recently and so I am about to giver a tuneup...any suggestions? It looks to me as if it has the originaly plug wires. What should I replace these with? And what plugs would be best? I am thinking about the new Bousch? It has a rectangle air filter should I replace with a K&N and holes in the box mod? What is the trick to reaching the S-plug on the rear passenger side? Any thing else I am leaving out that might need replaced or at least checked out?? I was also wondering about a relocation of the oil filter? Anyone done this successfully? Where'd you put it? Any suggestions from you seasoned pros would be of great help. My honey and I are bout to elope(SP?)and I want my EX(no pun intended) runnin in tip top! Thanks!! Griz

I have changed over to Bosch Plat+4's, SplitFire DualCore wires, and a K&N Filter with a modifyed air box. The easiest way to reach the rear passenger side wire and plug is to turn the wheel and access the plug from inside the fender flare. It still is not easy but much easier than anyother way!
AS far as modifying the air box you can cut out all of the sides on the bottom of the box, as long as you keep the 4 corners intact your fine.
You may want to consider changing the coolant along with the thermostat, the coolant is prob needed but the thermostat is just preventative maint. Someone a while back mentioned replacing the radiator cap..?
Think about the fuel filter, it is not recomended but I may sugest it, just as preventative maint. Like the fuel filter you may want to think about replacing the Oxygen sensors. I have not replaced either yet but I will by the summer time.
I have done all of the these little mods along with BFG AT TA tires and I really enjoy the added performance.

Sounds like you're on the right track but I'd recommend that you do a little more research before you cut up your air box. There are varying opinions on whether or not this is a good idea. Some say that sucking in hot air from the engine compartment has adverse effects on performance.

Cut up that air box. I got great power, sound and better mileage in my 91 2dr EB. I cut the holes in my fathers 90 Bronco 302 airbox and it worked great for him too. Good Luck
