My wife's '01 Mounty just had the seat recliner bolt recall done a couple of weeks ago. The dealer changed the oil while it was in which was a nice touch, and they even washed it for her. When she got it home, I could hear the thing squealing from in the house. How she didn't hear it I don't know, she was probably blaring the tunes or something.

Anyway, I popped the hood and can hear the squeal coming from the accessory drive belt area in the front of the engine but there is no way they could have dripped oil on the belt anywhere. It didn't make the noise when she left either. Any ideas on what could have happened during an oil change to cause the belt to squeal??

It has gotten better over the last few days and I guess my next step is to pull off the belt and try each pulley to see if I can find the culprit but it is awfully coincidental with the oil change. It was nice customer service but it may be no thanks next time...

they could have easily spilt oil on it while trying to refill the engine with oil

it probrally got wet from the car wash. if it is the original belt i would change it anyway. that should also get rid of the noise

Thanks, guys. Billy, I can't believe I hadn't thought of that, especially if they cleaned under the hood at all after the oil change. Maybe they spilled oil in there and then tried to clean it up so you are both right?

What mileage are you supposed to change the belts at? There are no cracks or anything in it and the truck only has 52k on it. The belt is tight too. Replacing the belt is pretty simple and relatively inexpensive so if it continues I will probably do that. Thanks for the help!

my belt looked fine but would squeel when i would start the truck up. i replaced it with a goodyear gatorback and naver looked back
