I have a '98 4.0 OHV. Has any one had the belt tension pulley assembly just break off. I was cruising down i-75 in Macon Georgia. I heard a ping noise fro the under side. I thought I hit something. then about half mile down the road I noticed no power steering. I looked at the gauges( crap). The temp was flying up. The battery was dropping and the idiot light was on. I got off at the next exit and popped the hood. The belt was still there but was just not on. I pulled it out and it was nto broken. I then looked around and noticed the belt tension assembly as gone. the only thing there was the back part of the case wwhere the wpring was at and the bolt that hold it on. I was able to get a new one from the autoparts store. It took 5 minutes to change and fix. What could have caused this to happen other than just age. 162,000 Miles

just normal wear...had mine change 2 wks ago...it was making noise didnt take any chance..my EX as 82,000 miles..

I just replaced mine yesterday. Took it in for a recall on the sway bar links and the mechanic noticed the tensioner was coming apart. I have 144k on my X. I guess those things are only good for about that. I was probably very close to having the same thing happen.

Good...It sounds like I have nothing to worry about now, that I fixed it...

Mine went bad at about 120k miles. I found half of my belt under the vehicle one day. I popped the hood to find the tensioner angled about 15 degrees towards the radiator. I limped to the auto parts store with 1/4" width of my belt remaining and replaced both the belt and tensioner.

The bearing on mine gave out Sunday

yeah, mine snapped off in the parking lot to the ice arena in Marlborough, MA . Luckily I have AAA plus, so they towed it back to my house in ct for free because there was no way in hell i was going to pay a mechanic to do it.

What does AAA cost, I have been thinking about joining, but I haven't taken the time to check into it yet

I would be interested to know some of the other benefits too
