Could this cause a spiratic knocking when still cold at idle? and could it cause a weird pinging noise that almost sounds like an exhaust leak when under load?

I have a 2000 mercury mountaineer 5.0 OHV 302 with 154,000 miles

What do you mean by bent? Are you talking about the metal hose that runs from the passengers side manifold to the EGR valve? If so, that is supposed to be bent, that's what the bellows in it are for. If you mean the two rubber DPFE hoses that come off the EGR tube and run to the DPFE sensor, those can bend as well.

If you would attach a picture of what you're talking about, that could help out a lot.

5.0 Explorers have problems with the EGR/DPFE ticking and leaking, so this is a very common issue. It usually winds up being the EGR tube or DPFE hoses themselves, but in the worst case it's a cracked manifold. Other causes of exhaust ticking could be blown exhaust gaskets or the leaking EGR valve itself.
